Maria Jose Montijo L.Ac. CMT Hablo Español

Maria Jose Montijo, L.Ac. practices a blend of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) with Biodynamic Craniosacral Touch (BCT).  She is a California licensed acupuncturist, an herbalist, a certified BCT practitioner, and a certified Massage Therapist.  She has 15 years of experience as a bodyworker.

Maria Jose’s practice is guided by the synergy of TCM diagnostic and treatment skills with the felt sense-experience of the motion present in the Cerebro-Spinal Fluid.  She enjoys needling using a Japanese Technique that is painless and great for sensitive patients. She has learned that healing starts with acceptance, self-love, and the encouragement of our own body’s inherent intelligence and resilience. She specializes in working with mental health and trauma.

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Maria Jose discovered Chinese cosmology at an early age via Tai-Chi and Qi-Gong practice. Through this practice, her journey of self-discovery and healing began. This led her to become passionate about other embodiment practices, massage, and bodywork.

She trained at the Massage and Bodywork Institute in Puerto Rico and studied Thai Massage in Thailand, where she also discovered Craniosacral Therapy.  Upon arrival at the Bay Area she began a mentorship in BCT with Giorgia Milne that lasts to this day. Maria Jose formalized her Chinese Medicine studies with a Master’s degree at American College of Traditional Chinese Medicine (ACTCM).

She has been a Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner at Berkeley Primary Care of Lifelong Medical, Casa Segura Needle Exchange Program, the Community Ear Acupuncture Project in the Bay and the ACTCM Acupuncture and Herbal Clinic.

Maria Jose is a bilingual, bicultural Latina, and enjoys living and practicing in the diverse setting that is Oakland.  She is committed to making acupuncture more accessible for underserved communities. Maria Jose is also a musician and performs regularly around the Bay Area.
